Experiments in Encaustic
I love the semi-translucent effect of light encaustic over dark paint.
Sometimes the encaustic catches fire when you’re melting with a blowtorch, but you can blow it out.
It is important to know what you’re doing, though. I suggest researching materials & technique for your own safety & knowledge. Turpentine, naked flame, wax & wood are a highly flammable combination.

Build a fire outside /
Cut lots of green willow into sticks & pile into a mound around the fire, leave a gap to light the fire ( keep twigs in reserve to fill it in.) /
Cover with soil, leaving some gaps for air /

Recipe for Encaustic ( Beeswax & Balsam ) formula, from ‘Formulas for Artists’ by Robert Massey ( Batsford publ.)
